(1989) 1 WLR 29 (CA). The claimant successfully sued the defendant in Negligence when he incompetently advised her to by a particular second-hand car. The decision seems to be based on the general principle oftort law that if a person holds himself out as possessing a particular skill, he should work to a standard compatible with that claim Wells v cooper (1958). The court accepted that whether it was reasonable for a person to rely on another's claims of competence would have to depend on the circumstances of each case, but in this case it was reasonable for the claimant to do so.
