Under current Sentencing legislation, a criminal conviction may attract a fine (see: Fine sentencing), a Custodial sentence, or a community sentence. Community sentences are generally felt to be suitable for offenses less serious than those for which imprisonment is appropriate. Currently, the following community sentences are recognized.

  • probation
  • community service
  • combination order (i.e., a combination of the above)
  • action plan order
  • drug testing and treatment order
  • attendance order
  • supervision order
  • curfew
