Judges and magistrates as a professional group. In England and Wales the judiciary comprises -- in order of increasing seniority -- lay and stipendiary magistrates (see: Magistrate), circuit judges (see: Circuit judge) and Recorders (see: Recorder), High Court ('puisne') judges (see: High Court judge), and the appelate (appeal) judges (see: Lord justice of appeal, Law lord).
