An interest in land (see: Interestland and property) that is governed by the common law or legislation, rather than the practices of Equity. The passage of the Law Of Property Act (1925) destroyed many of the large number of legal estates that existed at that time, retaining only one meta of Freehold and one meta of Leasehold estate. Any other form of interst has to take effect in equity, and will only take effect where the specific principles of equity permit.
