From Law wiki, the wiki for law research(1805) 10 Ves 522. For acharitable trust to be valid, its purposes must be exclusively charitable. This particular trust failed since it was expressed to be for 'charitable or benevolent' purposes, and not everything that is 'benevolent', however worthy, would be recognised as charitable in English law.
