'not my deed'. A defence against charges of, for example, Breach of contract, on the grounds that the defendant was unaware what he or she was doing. This defence has very limited application, and will not be accepted if the defendant was merely careless. Normally it will be necessary to show that the defandant has no real understanding of the consequences of his actions, perhaps because of illness or incapacity.
