A jargon term in land law for meaning, essentially, 'made a lower priority'. For example:

An equitable mortgage is postponed to a later registered legal mortage

means

The rights of an equitable mortgagee are made to take a lower priority than those of a later legal mortgagee when the later mortgage is registered.
