A profit a prendre (see Profitland and property) that is not attached to a particular piece of land, but is owned by a particular person or group of people. One of the substantial changes made by the Editing Land registration act (2002) is that profits in gross are now substantively registerable, rather than merely noted against the Servient tenement. Profits can be very valuable, and the ability to register them is generally seen as a positive development.
