[1980] 3 All ER 918. For the purposes of charity law (see charitable trust), an organization that exists for the 'advancement of religion' is properly charitable (PemselsCase1891). The courts are not particularly discriminating about the particular features of the religion in question, but humanist organizations, such as the South Place Ethical Society, are not (in law) religious. Per Dillon J: Religion concerns man's relations with God, and ethics concern man's relations with man. Happily, worthy humanist organizations may still attract charitable status, as in this case, by being organizations for the advancement of education.
