1. The Registrar of a court is its administrator, and responsible for its day-to-day running. The Registrar must be a solicitor with 7 years' standing. Registrars may hear deals with certain cases, such as small claims. They are appointed by the Lord Chancellor. Registrars are now more properly referred to by the title 'District Judge', as are stipendiary magistrates with who they share compatible qualifications and experience.
